Step One: Let's go home.....

As you all know by now, Wendy/Zib and Melly are back in the States. They figured they could go home to live with her Mother. That did not work out too well to say the least. I figure Zib will be blogging again in no time and will give details of their exploits of their first week or two in California.

Zib and Melly need to settle down and get Kiddo back in school. With the generous help of many in the knitting community, they will fly to Charleston, SC and live with Gary and I for however long it takes to get them into their own home. But for now, our home is their home.

So, Zib, maybe you can't go home again, but you can come here and you can call this your home. And, welcome back to the community who has missed you - KNITTERS!

  1. Yeah!!! Lots of flag waving and jumping up and down and running to get wool to fondle, not throw....

  4. I didn't really know you girls from knitty before, but your story is touching and I've been following along. Hope the transition goes smoothly!

  6. Wendy, I don't know you from the board, having joined after your departure, but I wanted to send out my very best wishes for a smooth transition. I admire your bravery, in leaving a situation that needed to be left (and I know zero of the details, I just know that there is nothing easy about leaving home under the best of circumstances, and it's not sounding like your circumstances had even a nodding acquaintance with the best). Asking for help is a terribly difficult thing to do, and I'm so glad that when you asked, there were people willing and able to respond.

A dear friend of mine went through a high-stress, high-drama noplace-to-go sort of scenario last summer, and she and her daughter stayed with us for a few months until she got her feet under her. This was, I hope, a help for her, but it was also an enormously positive thing for my own family (myself, husband, kids were 8 and 4 at the time), to have the chance to open our home to someone and build a closer bond with them. I just wanted to put that out there, because it can be easy to start to feel guilty or some-other-negative and forget that, by allowing others to help, you've given them a tremendous gift, as well.

And I'll stop babbling, now, and go to bed. Best of luck to you both!

  7. You Can't Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe is one of my favorite books. I'm excited to be part of this great adventure, and eager to help it unfold.
